Banisteriopsis Caapi – Trueno
What is Banisteriopsis Caapi?
Banisteriopsis caapi, also known as Caapi or Yajé, is a sacred vine native to the Amazon rainforest. For centuries, indigenous shamans have used it for its powerful psychedelic and visionary effects. There are more than 40 different known varieties of this vine. At Indian Spirit, we offer two primary types: Ourinhos and Trueno.
Trueno – “Thunder”
The name Trueno translates to “thunder,” which reflects its intense and heavy impact on the body. This variety is known for producing deep, powerful, and transformative journeys, making it popular among experienced users and shamans seeking strong ceremonial effects.
Ourinhos – “Little Gold”
For comparison, the Ourinhos strain means “little gold” and is often preferred by indigenous church communities, such as the Santo Daime religion, due to its gentler yet deeply spiritual qualities.
Traditional Use with DMT Plants
Traditionally, Banisteriopsis caapi is combined with plants that contain DMT (dimethyltryptamine). By itself, orally ingested DMT is broken down by enzymes and rendered inactive. However, Caapi contains MAO-inhibitors (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) that temporarily block these enzymes, allowing DMT to become active and produce its renowned visionary states.
Caapi is also sometimes combined with psilocybin mushrooms, resulting in an even more intense psychedelic experience.
Dosage & Effects
- Typical dosage ranges between 25 g and 150 g, depending on body weight, sensitivity, and intended purpose.
- First effects are usually noticeable after 60–90 minutes.
- The visionary journey lasts approximately 2–6 hours, depending on the dosage and mindset.
Storage Advice
Always store Banisteriopsis caapi in a cool, dry place and keep it out of reach of children.
Safety Warning
Important: Banisteriopsis caapi contains natural MAO-inhibitors. This makes it potentially dangerous when combined with certain psychoactive substances or foods containing tyramine. Please research thoroughly and never combine with contraindicated substances or medications.
